WHY ORGANIC COTTON

GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON

_________________________________

All our organic cotton fabrics are GOTS certified. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.

The aim of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

_________________________________

Organic cotton is 80% rain-fed, which reduces pressure on local water sources. The absence of chemicals also means that water is cleaner and safer.   Cotton is often grown in water-scarce areas using irrigation and it takes 2,700 liters of water to make a conventional cotton t-shirt.

The GOTS certification requires a functional waste water treatment plant as mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with social criteria.

Conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides.  No toxic chemicals are used in the growing of organic cotton.  When you buy organic cotton you are investing in water conservation, cleaner air, better soil and farmer livelihoods.
